Sequenced Plasmodium chabaudi lines available

Stabilates of the cloned P.c.chabaudi AJ and CB and P.c.adami DK and DS lines, recently sequenced by Thomas Otto and colleagues at the Wellcome Trust Sanger Institute, are now available.  Stabilates of these lines have been made from infections in mice maintained in pathogen-free conditions.

New DiCre expressing P. falciparum line available!

Mike Blackman, NIMR, London, has kindly deposited  the  Plasmodium falciparum clone 1G5DiCre  for DiCre-mediated gene knock-down and selectable marker recycling. This is a novel knockout system which can produce constitutively DiCre-expressing P. falciparum clones that have broad utility for the functional analysis of essential asexual blood-stage parasite genes. The plasmid pHH1-SERA5del3preDiCre is also available.

Seven new P. falciparum lines from Africa now available!

Dr. Colin Sutherland, LSHTM, UK, has deposited with the EMRR seven new culture-adapted Plasmodium falciparum lines from UK travellers. These are labelled HL1204 to HL1214 in the Plasmodium falciparum section of the reagents lists.  All are polyclonal isolates of varying drug sensitivities, from five different African countries. We have expanded all of these lines.  Vials of parasites can be shipped via our couriers worldwide.

anti-GAPDH monoclonals now available

Three monoclonal antibodies to Plasmodium falciparum glyceraldehyde-3-phosphate dehydrogenase (GAPDH) are now available as protein G purified reagents. mAbs to GAPDH are commonly used as a loading control for Western blots, and as a marker of the parasite cytoplasm. GAPDH is a highly abundant enzyme involved in the sixth step of glycolysis. Positive in IFA with P. vivax. May also be cross-reactive with GAPDH from rodent Plasmodia.

New Website launched 12/5/2013

The European Malaria Reagent Repository launches its new website on 12/05/2013

The repository has a collection of parasite strains, clones and lines from both human and rodents, monoclonal antibodies to a wide range of blood stage asexual and gametocyte antigens, and a panel of ~60 recombinant antigens derived from blood stage expressed P. falciparum and P. chabaudi genes. We can also provide P. falciparum parasite extracts and DNA on request, as well as IFA slides.
